Genocide Petition

Join us in putting pressure on the Albanese government to pass the Criminal Code Amendment (Genocide, Crimes Against Humanity and War Crimes) Bill 2024 by signing the petition and joining thousands across the country in their calls for accountability to war crimes.

To Federal Parliamentarians and the Australian Government,

We, the undersigned, support the Criminal Code Amendment (Genocide, Crimes Against Humanity and War Crimes) Bill 2024, and its removal of the requirement for the Attorney-General to consent to proceedings relating to genocide and other atrocity crime cases, and to allow for review of previous decisions of the Attorney General since 2002 to this extent

All victims and survivors of Genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes everywhere should be able to seek justice through legal systems that adhere to international standards and are free from political interference.

No politician should get to say who can and can’t be held accountable for crimes in our legal system, especially for the most heinous of crimes.

But right now, in this country, the Attorney-General has unchecked power to block prosecution of Genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity from proceeding in our courts.

This is completely against the intention of the UN’s Genocide Convention and the Rome Statute, according to which it is the duty of every signatory state to exercise its criminal jurisdiction over those responsible for these crimes.

We therefore respectfully request that the Australian Parliament passes this Bill and to start taking steps towards healing and reconciliation.
